Flood Risk Assessment, Hartlepool, NE England
Jul 16, 2015

A Flood Risk Assessment has been completed by RAB Consultants in support of a proposed residential development in Hartlepool.

A Flood Risk Assessment was required at the site as the proposed development area is greater than 1 hectare.

RAB Consultants carried out a site visit and topographic survey to establish ground levels. Environment Agency modelled data for the local ordinary watercourse does not extend to the site location, therefore cross sectional data was obtained as part of the topographic survey in order to determine the risk of fluvial flooding from the small watercourse running through the site.

Our assessment in order to meet the requirements of the National Planning Policy Framework involved:

  • Data collection, including using HEC-RAS modelling software to determine flood levels
  • Liaison with the Environment Agency, Northumbrian Water Ltd and Hartlepool Borough Council
  • An assessment of the risk of flooding from different sources, including fluvial, groundwater and surface water related

Recommendations were also included for finished floor levels and Sustainable Drainage Systems.
