Flood Risk Assessment, Sheffield, South Yorkshire
Aug 1, 2014

RAB Consultants has completed a Flood Risk Assessment in support of a proposed residential accommodation development in Sheffield.

The site is located in Flood Zone 2, as identified by the Environment Agency's flood map, and lies upstream of the confluence of the River Sheaf and the Porter Brook; a Flood Risk Assessment was therefore required for this site. Our assessment to meet the requirements of the National Planning Policy Framework involved the following:

  • A site visit to assess flood risk within the local area;

  • Data collection, including the Environment Agency's most recent modelled flood data for the River Sheaf and Porter Brook in Sheffield;

  • Liaison with the Environment Agency, Sheffield City Council and Yorkshire Water;

  • Assessment of the risk of flooding from all sources including fluvial, surface water, groundwater and drainage related;

  • Preparation of a Flood Risk Assessment report in accordance with the National Planning Policy Framework.

Through data collection, consultation and analysis, the report concluded that the development is considered appropriate given the flood risk and is not expected to increase flood risk in the surrounding area.
