Flood asset condition inspections, Carmarthenshire
Nov 19, 2018

RAB has recently completed asset condition inspections of 84 kilometres of coastline in Carmarthenshire. RAB’s accredited inspectors identified in excess of 150 assets, grading them in line with the Environment Agency’s Condition Assessment Manual and mapping their location on the Council’s asset management system. The inspections have helped the Council understand the condition of its own and third party assets and will help prioritise investigative and/or remedial work. The inspections were carried out throughout September (fortunately before the arrival of Storm Callum!) with all assets mapped by the end of October.

RAB is the leading industry expert in visual inspections of flood assets and we exlusively deliver the Environment Agency's asset inpectors accreditation programme (T98 Visual Asset Inspectors Accreditation).  Additionally, we have trained and accredited asset inspectors at Natural Resource Wales, lead local flood authorities across England and Wales and local authorities in Scotland.  RAB provided mentoring to Carmarthenshire County Council's Environment Department through the coastal inspection work and staff are now seeking full T98 accreditation.

Feedback from Carmarthenshire County Council Flood Defence and Coastal Protection Manager...

Your staff are great.  Your team integrated with my staff and assisted in their development while undertaking the work to a high standard.  I could not ask for any more.  They were flexible and accommodating and required limited assistance which made it easy for me and my team. With regards to the work package I am very pleased with the outcome.  Not only do we have a robust asset inventory but also an assessment of their condition all input into AMX for us to progress. In summary, the timeliness and quality of the work is exemplar, I am very pleased.  The programme was managed, incorporating our staff and data needs with no additional complications.
