Flood Risk Assessment (FRA), Quorn, Leicestershire, Charnwood
Oct 10, 2014

The FRA required liaison with Charnwood Council and the Environment Agency to agree on an acceptable flood risk classifications to base the report on. Due to the close proximity of a flood defence a breach analysis was undertaken to confirm the immediate risk to people, if the defence was to fail. A HEC-RAS model was created to estimate depths and velocities at the site in the case of a breach. This showed a reduced and acceptable risk to people allowing the development to go ahead.

The report gave recommendations to be carried on as conditions within the planning application. These included:

  • Setting floor levels,
  • Flood resilience measures on the ground floor,
  • Safe access and egress route,
  • Use of SUDS techniques for surface water.
