RAB Flood Risk Assessment, Grimsby, Humber Estuary
May 29, 2014

RAB Consultants has completed a flood risk assessment (FRA) and outline surface water drainage strategy for a proposed renewable power facility, supporting industry in the Humber Estuary; a site of national significance for industry.

Our assessment has been carried out to meet the requirements of the National Planning Policy Framework and involved the following:

  • A site visit to assess flood risk at the site;
  • Assessment of the risk of flooding from all sources including surface water, groundwater and drainage related;
  • Extensive consultation with the local Environment Agency and local authority officers;
  • Production of Sequential Test;
  • Desk based assessment of suitable mitigation measures to offset any risk of flooding;
  • Assessment of the local drainage infrastructure;
  • Liaison with Anglian Water;
  • Defining the surface water management requirements;
  • Calculation of greenfield surface water runoff rates and volumes;
  • Outline post-development surface water drainage strategy.

As a result of our work, previous Environment Agency objections were lifted and planning permission was granted for the Renewable Power Facility.

Our client commented “we would like thank you for helping us get to this stage. You have worked extremely hard throughout all of this and your expertise and advice has been paramount.”
