Flood Risk Assessment, Wolsingham, County Durham
Jun 21, 2013

RAB Consultants has recently completed a Flood Risk Assessment for a residential development in Wolsingham, County Durham.

 The assessment involved the following:

* A site visit to assess flood risk within the local area;

* A topographic survey of the site, watercourse and access/egress routes (relative to Ordnance Datum);

* Analysis of the Environment Agency data;

* Consultation with the Environment Agency and local planners;

* Preparation of a Flood Risk Assessment report in accordance with the National Planning * Policy Framework. This also included a Flood Warning and Evacuation Plan.

 The topographic survey showed that the existing ground levels on site were higher than the 1% a.p. and 0.5% a.p. flood levels and the report concluded that proposed Finished Floor Levels provided additional freeboard against extreme flooding events. We were able to demonstrate a safe access/egress route away from the development and recommended that the residents of the property sign up to receive the Environment Agency’s Floodline Warnings Direct service which is available to properties in Wolsingham.
