Flood Risk Assessment at Draycott Old Road, Forsbrook, Staffordshire Moorlands
Jul 20, 2018

RAB used modelled data obtained from the Environment Agency to assess flood risk. Flood maps show the proposed development to be within both flood zones 2 and 3 and also at risk from surface water flooding.

Although there are no records of historical flooding to the site, flooding in the nearby Forsbrook Square has occurred on several occasions, as illustrated in the picture below taken in 1987.

Consideration was given to floodplain compensation, with RAB suggesting an outline design for an attenuation basin in a nearby field.

To ensure that this property is safe from flood risk RAB recommended raising finished floor levels 0.6m above the floodplain and installing sustainable drainage solutions to manage and limit surface water run-off.

It was concluded that, given the flood risk, the proposed development is appropriate and is not expected to increase the risk of flooding elsewhere.
