Our new apprenticeship programme gets off to a flying start
Nov 1, 2017

RAB Consultants is delighted to announce a successful start to our new apprenticeship programme.  Our first two apprentices joined at the end of the summer with Craig Saker joining our Lichfield team and Freya Green joining our Bedford team. Both Craig and Freya are attending local colleges one day a week to gain a Level 3 qualification in Civil Engineering. They are already working on live projects, helping to deliver flood risk assessments, drainage designs and going on site visits.

Craig Saker “I’m Craig one of RAB Consultant’s apprentices. I started working for RAB at the end of July. Since then I have spent my time accompanying other team members on site visits.  Some of these visits were to conduct a walk over survey of the site to aid with completing an FRA, while others were to check on site progress. I have also been doing calculations for flood risk assessments including, peak flow rate calculations using the IH124 method as well as expanding my knowledge of CAD software and altering CAD drawings for various projects“.

Freya Green “I have just finished studying for my A Levels, and wanted an apprenticeship rather than to go to university so that I could gain experience in the workplace, as well as studying for a qualification. This apprenticeship is a really unique opportunity for flood risk management and it is really interesting. I have already got involved in lots of projects, completing FRAs and have been on site visits, including one to Kew Gardens. Recently I have had the chance to help with Property Level Protection surveys”.

Ray Pickering, RAB Director says “We are all excited by this new initiative at RAB and already our new apprentices are learning quickly and doing a fantastic job, whilst gaining a highly valuable qualification.  I started my career in the same way in 1993, studying for four years on day release whilst working at the National Rivers Authority (now Environment Agency).”
