Flood Risk Assessment, Helensburgh, Argyll and Bute
May 25, 2017

In March 2017 RAB Consultants completed a Flood Risk Assessment (FRA) in support of a proposed residential development in Helensburgh, Argyll and Bute.

RAB Consultants carried out a site visit to assess the flood risk to this development and it was identified the primary source of flooding would be from the Firth of Clyde to the west of the site. Historical flood information from Argyll and Bute Council and the Scottish Environment Protection Agency supported this assessment.

Our assessment involved:

  • Use of the Coastal Flood Boundary Database to obtain modelled flood data for the Firth of Clyde.

  • Liaison with the Scottish Environment Protection Agency and Argyll and Bute Council.

  • An assessment of the risk of flooding from all sources including fluvial, tidal, coastal, surface water, canals, reservoirs and groundwater.

  • Providing recommendations to mitigate flood risk, balanced against design/construction plans specified by the client.

  • Production of a report in line with guidance from the Scottish Planning Policy and Argyll and Bute Planning Policies.
