Flood Risk Assessment and Flood Warning and Evacuation Plan, River Humber, Hull
Feb 4, 2015

A Flood Risk Assessment and development of a Flood Warning and Evacuation Plan has been completed by RAB Consultants to protect people and property and reduce the impact of business disruption at an existing commercial site in Hull, on the northern bank of the River Humber.

The development site is located in Flood Zone 3 in accordance with the Environment Agency’s Flood Map for Planning (Rivers and Sea), therefore requiring a Flood Risk Assessment for this development. RAB Consultants carried out a site visit to assess the flood risk to this site in relation to local ground levels.

Our assessment to meet the requirements of the National Planning Policy Framework also involved:

  • Data collection, including the Environment Agency’s most recently modelled flood data for the River Humber in Hull
  • Following assessment methodology outlined in the Flood Risk Assessment Guidance for new development R&D Technical Report FD2320/TR2
  • Liaison with the Environment Agency, Hull City Council and Yorkshire Water
  • An assessment of the risk of flooding from all sources including fluvial, surface water, groundwater and drainage related
  • An assessment of options for improving the flood resilience of the site

Development of a formal flood warning and evacuation plan was also undertaken to protect people and property and ensure preparation for flooding.
