Flood Risk Assessment, Richmondshire, North Yorkshire
Jul 16, 2015

A Flood Risk Assessment was carried out for an extension to an existing building in Richmondshire.

The site location is adjacent to the river Tees within Flood Zone 3 in accordance to the Environment Agency’s Flood Map for Planning (Rivers and Sea), therefore a Flood Risk Assessment was required.

RAB Consultants undertook a site visit in order to assess flood risk to the area.

Our assessment in order to meet the requirements of the National Planning Policy Framework involved:

  • Data collection, including the Environment Agency’s modelled flood levels for the river Tees
  • Liaison with the Environment Agency
  • An assessment of the risk of flooding from a number of sources including fluvial, groundwater and surface water, in accordance with Strategic Flood Risk Assessment for North Yorkshire

Flood resilience measures were proposed to reduce the impact of damage caused during a flood event. Finished floor levels were also proposed in accordance with existing local ground levels.
